Femicide is generally defined as the murder of women because they are women, though some definitions include any murders of women or girls (apps.who.int\/iris\/bitstream\/handle\/10665\/77421\/WHO_RHR_12.38_eng.pdf)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

On 25 November 2015, in the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women, its Causes and Consequences’s report to the General Assembly (A\/71\/398), she considered the data collection and analysis on femicide as a global challenge<\/strong>, and requested all state parties to establish a Femicide Watch. In 2018, the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development heeded to the UN call and commenced with the establishment of the very first Femicide Watch in the African continent<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The AGSA’s Femicide Watch aims to Prevent femicide through the collection data on incident rates at national, regional then comparing them to global levels. AGSA works with a multitude of different bodies, to work from a human rights perspective. AGSA wants to identify nation and regional laws and policy shortfalls, to undertake changes and preventive measures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
