Activities and Objectives

Objectives

  1. To provide a professional association for students and academics in the interdisciplinary field of Gender Studies, Feminist Research and professionals that promote women’s rights, gender equality and diversity in Africa;
  1. To advance the production and dissemination of knowledge and experience from the field of Gender Studies, Feminist Research, women’s rights, gender equality in academic institutions and other settings through teaching, learning and research;
  1. To develop and foster cooperation in Gender Studies and Feminist Research between academic community, gender organizations, gender documentation centres/libraries, policy makers, NGOs and others;
  1. To support the development of education and training programs in Gender Studies, Feminist Research, women’s rights, gender equality, and diversity;
  1. To strengthen the visibility of the field of Gender Studies and Feminist Research in Africa;
  1. To support students and upcoming researchers with an interest in Gender Studies and Feminist Research;
  1. Demonstrate the contributions of Africans to feminism as well as to feminist scholarship that is comparative, global, intersectional and interdisciplinary;
  1. Set up AGSA documentation centre/library to assist students, academics, researchers and others.

Activities

  1. Outreach, public information, and communication though a blog, regular electronic or paper newsletter;
  1. Research and research dissemination and promoting academic journals in the field of Gender/Feminist Studies/research;
  1. Organizing an international academic conference on Gender Studies and Feminist Research every three years;
  1. Delivering policy recommendations in the field of education, research, and gender issues;
  1. Providing a platform for students and researchers with an interest in the field of Gender Studies and Feminist Research;
  1. Run programs that address the needs and interest of members, such as leadership training, skills development, professional development and anti-oppression education;
  1. Contribute to curriculum and program development, evaluation and consultation; and
  1. Source for books, journals and related materials.
